OUR FOUNDATION PARTNERS
Plastic Free Manly has been created in partnership with:
As a community-driven movement, we rely on the generosity of our sponsors. All of the businesses below believe in a plastic free Manly and have donated funds and resources to our cause. Please support them!
Sara Rickards, aka the Sustainability Ninja, is both a Biomedical Scientist & Environmental Engineer. She has her hands in lots of sustainability pies - being the Education For Sustainability Manager at Macquarie University, Co-host for the Un-school of Disruptive Design and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education.
“Our planet is a precious and complex ecosystem with finite resources. The use of single use plastic that pollutes our planet and wastes our resources (which could be used to make much more useful things like medical devices!) is a reflection of our current mindset. I'm proud to be an ambassador for PFM as we work towards empowering individuals, businesses and society - to see that there is a smarter way, that we can have a common goal and change our mindset - to one that focuses on preserving the paradise that is Manly and our planet.”
TANK THE TURTLE
Tank is a sea turtle and our most awesome mascot! You'll see Tank in all of our educational material shared with schools and at our events (despite his sleepy appearance, he likes to party and is known for his underwater dance moves). Tank supports a plastic bag free Manly because many of his friends have become sick after ingesting plastic bags after mistaking them for jellyfish.
Charlotte is a Sea Shepherd Ambassador, Co-founder of VOX POPULI and part-time Manly resident.
"As a dive conservationist, I have witnessed first-hand the destructive effects of plastic upon our environment. A holistic solution is required to address one of the greatest challenges of our era, this requires a multi-faceted approach, from grass roots, to enterprise and most importantly government policy. I am proud to be an ambassador for Plastic Free Manly, as the initiative is a bold step in the right direction towards a plastic free Australia."
Laura Enever is the epitome of a surfer girl. She is competing on the ASP World Tour, currently ranked top 10 and loves the amazing opportunity it is is to travel and play in the world’s oceans. Having racked up several major accolades such as Triple Crown Rookie of the Year, and ISA and ASP World Jr Champion, she is on the brink of huge things in and out of the water and very passionate about using her career to aid in the global effort to protect our oceans.
"The ocean is my office, but long before riding waves became my job I had a deep connection and so much love for the ocean and environment. As a professional surfer, I’ve witnessed places around the world that are very polluted, and seeing the lack of knowledge people have about protecting their oceans is incredibly disheartening but also motivating. Everyone wants to change the world to some extent right? But this doesn’t mean we each have to do something massive. If we can all understand that doing little things can go a long way we can make a massive difference together. Not using plastics bags is the most perfect example of this. I am very proud to be an ambassador of the Plastic Free efforts taking place in Manly, Bondi and Byron. I hope we can work together towards a Plastic free Australia..”
